What is an Interactive Museum? Redefining Cultural Heritage Through Immersive Storytelling

14.04.2026

Whether you want to modernize a cultural heritage site, create a digital exhibition from scratch, or integrate projection mapping art into a permanent installation, we know how to make it happen. Your project will become more than just an “exhibition” – it will be a world-class, captivating  immersive destination, because our team combines creative vision with engineering precision

Museums of the past are well known to everyone, and, of course, we all know that visitors had to whisper in the quiet halls and view the exhibits through glass.  Today everything has changed. Concept of the museum has been transformed by rapid technological advancements. This change took the form of interactive museum – a dynamic, living space. Visitors  do not merely observe — they become part of the experience.

What makes an interactive museum special? Interactive museums combine visual storytelling, multimedia presentations, and interactive technologies. All these elements transform collections into spaces that invite touch, sound, and play.

To learn more, we’ll focus on our flagship Tabuk Interactive Museum, a 1,200 m² space.

The Challenge: What Was Needed

We had an exciting task: to bring the history of the Tabuk region to life. With the support of the investment company ‘Samaya’, commissioned by the Ministry of Tourism and National Heritage of Saudi Arabia, we were able to achieve our goal.

This was more than just a ‘screen’ project; our goal was –  create a lasting interactive art experience. Its realisation was vital to achieving the following objectives:

  • To stimulate cultural tourism and strengthen the city’s image.

  • To engage audiences across generations.

  • To ensure seamless operation for many years through the use of reliable and high-performance technologies.

  • To transform complex historical data into an emotional and captivating journey through the immersive museum.

Our Solution: Engineering the Immersive Experience.

Our approach was tailored specifically to the client’s needs, and we designed a series of interactive exhibits. We didn’t just install equipment; we developed interactive exhibits that invite direct user engagement.

The result exceeded our expectations – it produced stunning results. Audio-visual elements recreated period scenes.

The Interactive Book: Reimagining Literacy

Can traditional books become interactive narratives? Our answer is yes. We have created an interactive book that uses gestures and pprojection-based storytelling experience. The technology we developed recognizes gestures and allows visitors to turn virtual pages with a simple hand movement. Each page is accompanied by multimedia visuals and animations. This installation lets users zoom into historical maps.

Multimedia Interactive Touch Wall: History at Your Fingertips

Another interesting installation is the  interactive touch wall. It allows visitors to explore Tabuk’s historical heritage through interactive maps and historical illustrations.

The Interactive Sandbox: Sensory & Topographic Play

One of our most popular installations is the “Interactive Sandbox. It functions as both a sensory experience and a tool for topographic exploration. Visitors relocate the sand, and a depth sensor calculate the landscape. This allows you to view the terrain, rivers, and mountains in real time.

 Seamless Navigation: The Referral Stand

We have created Interactive Referral Stands that keep operations running smoothly. Multilingual digital guides assist visitors in navigating the museum’s immersive art zones. They also provide recommendations and ensure that no one misses a single detail of the experience.

The Outcome: A Landmark of Cultural Innovation

An interactive museum is a great modern solution for museums looking to bring something new to the table. Proof of this is the successful operation of the Tabuk Interactive Museum for over two years now.  By bringing together interactive 3D mapping and haptic technologies, we helped the Ministry of Tourism transforming traditional archives into world-class tourist attractions.

In addition to the initial “wow” factor, the project delivered a number of key strategic benefits:

Proven durability and reliability: Tested durability — our installations have run continuously for more than 700 days. Immersive experience studio is capable of transforming striking visual elements for events into durable and reliable systems. We have proven this through our own experience.

Improving the city’s image and attracting tourists — the museum is now the region’s leading cultural attraction. As a result, the project has significantly increased the length of visitors’ stays and contributed to the growth of the local economy.

Appeal across generations: A major advantage is the level of engagement among visitors of all ages. Kids are into the immersive play experience in the ‘Interactive Sandbox’, while researchers and older visitors spend hours exploring the rich historical layers on the ‘Interactive Table’ and the ‘Interactive Wall’.

Learning effectiveness through gamification: The transition from passive reading to interactive storytelling of history proved fruitful, because the level of retention of historical information increased significantly. Visitors discover Tabuk’s history by walking reconstructed paths and viewing personal stories on interactive displays.

Scalable Cultural Preservation: The project modernizes the site by creating a digital archive that uses 3D maps to show historic routes and artifacts. We have demonstrated that digital archives are not just “screens,” but emotional bridges that use 3D mapping to connect young people with their ancestors.
