About the project
Our studio created a 3D projection mapping show for this museum installation in Saudi Arabia on a detailed scale model of a traditional Saudi village.
We precisely adapted content to the architecture of the model. Also, we made this for terraces, houses, stone facades and mountain relief.
Dynamic light, flowing water animations, glowing lines, subtle human silhouettes, and synchronized sound guided visitors from the village’s natural origins and water sources through settlement, agriculture, architecture, and spiritual heritage.
The show for this project was built as a sequence of narrative chapters and helped turn the physical model into an immersive storytelling experience.
Challenge
- Mapping complex geometry
Terraces, facades and different levels of mountain relief – the model had many small architectural and landscape details.
Make graphics followed the real geometry to avoid visually shifting from the surface because the small physical scale projection had to remain extremely precise.
- Creating depth on a small object
Creating a sense of depth, motion, and scale within the miniature environment was another key technical challenge.
The visual content had to be precisely calibrated to the model’s geometry, enhancing spatial perception and dynamic movement without visually overpowering the physical architecture.
- Showing human presence
Representing real life inside the village and keeping the architecture as the main and central visual focus was really challenging.
Realistic characters didn’t have to distract from the model, so the human presence had to be integrated into the overall visual language and remain subtle.
Solution
- Precise adaptation to the model
After hours of discussions and hours of hard work our studio created projection content that followed the real architecture of the model. It highlights stone textures, terraces, facades and all landscape elements.
We made a digital layer that feels connected directly to the physical object.
- Building the show as a visual story
The experience was divided into several narrative chapters: water animations, dynamic lighting, glowing architectural lines and natural transitions. All these aspects and parts helped guide visitors through the development of the village and its cultural identity.
- Using abstract silhouettes
We decided to use abstract light silhouettes instead of realistic characters with the purpose of showing human presence.
As a result, this decision added a sense of life and movement while focus on the architecture and landscape were still in the spotlight.

Result
The precise work of the professional Lumotion Studio team transformed this static scale model into an immersive museum experience.
Visitors are guided through the story of the village – the integration of light, motion, sound and architectural projection; from its natural environment and early settlement to agriculture, community life and spiritual heritage.
This project is another example of our team expertise in combining projection mapping, animation and sound with physical museum environments. Many years of our experience in this field allows us to transform any static objects and architectural models into dynamic storytelling platforms. We can make it to communicate complex narratives in an engaging and spatial way.
